It is with great sadness to pass along the news that another league icon has passed away, Bill 'Doc' Close. He was one of the greatest players to grace our league, a tremendous coach and professor at the Charles County Community College and author of 'A Sandlot Sandlot,' his 1986 comprehensive book about the Charles-St. Mary's League. Please keep this great man and his family in your prayers.

then, I got a little ahead of myself, and yes it will satisfy me greatly if and when I get a chance to pitch for my new team. I tend to say what is on my mind, both good and bad, but you know where I stand, as the Bill D. let's all know it is I making this note. I've said my peace and will leave all things at that and in the end, the play on the field determines things.

Bill, You have the wrong Mike! First I have no idea what was said to cause you to leave Combine but I do know that this "so called team" as you put it helped you coach your way to a championship 2 yrs ago. We will see if you can move on with your new team and a clean slate or how many Combine players will you try to erase with your fastball when you pitch against them. Clean slate or revenge?

And there was nothing snide or underhanded in the actions to make me want to leave Combine in the first place?? I can live with my decision but what false statements have been stated about the whole situation to make me come out like the bad guy, as some would expect? Weren't you to be less involved and not play Mike, you had enough last year, or so you said. See you in week 2?

Bill D. I haven't seen anybody from Combine making snide remarks about you on this web site so why are you making snide remarks about Combine? The slate will never be clean unless you stop making remarks and just enjoy playing with your new team. If you have any beef with anybody from Combine please just take it up with them personally and not in public on this website. Thanks and have a good year

Play short? Ah man, you should have told me during warm ups ..... I would have actually warmed up. To think, I would have been able to wow the fans with my tremendous range and incredible arm from deep in the hole. Jeter'esque motion with the all-too-difficult-to-copy John Kruk look. I'll stick with DH'ing ........... easier to avoid physical excertion.

I didn't mind the steal(s), it was the attempt to bunt when up 7 that was a bit little league. Needless to say the next pitch was hit for a double since I opened my big mouth, but it was just one of those days, one of those innings. Combine will bounce back as usual. See you legion boys later in the summer, count on it.

I recall Western Charles 1st year in the league Combine ran the score up to 43-12 on us......now thats B-U-S-H. If my team is up 10 to Combine(probably will never happen), we'll try to get an insurance run because I'd never feel comfortable no matter what the score against that lineup. Just my $.02.

I think Scott said it best below. No one disagree's that we arent playing well. But some things are changing and people are getting some solid AB's under the belt. We had A LOT of good things happen for us on Sunday that we can build on. And like was said below - our staff can match up easily with anyone in the league as can the batting order. Just wait til it all comes together. ;-)

I figured you'd be up for it - lol. Why wasnt I surprised that you'd be the first to bust my ass. As for where I'll play, probably 1rst or DH. Lord knows I can't run worth a lick and my shoulder cracks more then your neck in a Bumpy Oak game. ;-)

I couldn't find it - besides, I dont think Herbert has set one up yet. And anyhow, I had to comeback to the hardball. Shouldn't be that extreme of a transition. I mean, when you consider the arc and speed of slow pitch - I didnt see much difference between that and what you throw :-D

I would say teams would have to combine somewhat if only just to have enough pitchers to compete in a tournament with these teams. Also, nothing says a tournament like this has to be done through the league, but it would be nice.

Their state championship has been in early August, well before our season ends. Brunswick traditionally plays in the Grover Frye Memorial Tournament on Labor Day Weekend (Frederick, MD) if you want to catch them there. (that is if they have the tournament next year).
